Official Inauguration of the Voghera–Varzi Greenway: Saturday, June 19 in Bagnaria
The official inauguration of the Voghera–Varzi Greenway, the green route toward the Apennines following the path of the old Voghera–Varzi railway, will be held on Saturday, June 19.
The regeneration process, which began several years ago and was carried forward with determination by the Province of Pavia—thanks also to the support of various institutions—has now come to fruition. The Greenway offers a new opportunity to enjoy the area’s beauty through sustainable, slow, and green mobility.
Previously open only as far as Salice Terme, the Greenway now includes its final hilly stretch from the spa town to Varzi, completing a total of 33 kilometers of pathway.
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
The inauguration will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 19 at 10:30 AM in the municipality of Bagnaria, chosen to highlight not only the start and end points of the Greenway, but also the charming villages along the route that can serve as gateways to discovering the Oltrepò Pavese region.
Inauguration Event Details
The ceremony will take place on Via IV Novembre, where the Greenway enters the town. After the ribbon-cutting, the event will move to the heart of the medieval village.
One of the key goals of the Greenway is to promote and enhance the historical, cultural, artistic, environmental, and tourist offerings of the Oltrepò Pavese.
In Piazza San Bartolomeo, in front of the beautiful church dating back to the 11th century, a short event will begin at 11:00 AM, opened by the institutional greeting of Bagnaria’s Mayor, Mattia Franza. Attendees will include:
- Vittorio Poma, President of the Province of Pavia
- Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region
- Giovanni Palli, President of the Mountain Community of Oltrepò Pavese
- Claudia Sorlini, Vice President of Fondazione Cariplo
- Federico del Prete, Legambiente Lombardia Representative
The panel discussion, titled “Greenway, Sustainable Mobility and the Environment: A New Path for Oltrepò”, will explore how the Greenway can drive territorial development and tourism.
The morning will conclude with a presentation by Engineer Barbara Galletti, from the Public Works Department of the Province of Pavia, who will showcase the construction work completed for the final section of the Greenway.
To round off the event, guests will be invited to enjoy a tasting of local products and wines from the Oltrepò Pavese, reinforcing the sustainable experience of the region.
