Anime WALL-ART: a Retorbido Mural Telling Half a Century of Anime Along the Greenway

A new artwork colors the Voghera–Varzi Greenway and fascinates both young and old: it is the ANIME WALL ART mural, an extraordinary tribute to the evolution of Japanese anime from the 1970s to 2020, enclosed within the word RETORBIDO. A project that unites pop culture, street art, and local identity.

Promoted by the MELTIN’POP Association, active in Retorbido in promoting drawing, comics, and manga, the mural was created in collaboration with street artist Andrea Bastia, known as TRUE, thanks to the generosity of the Decontardi Benedini family, who provided the wall now adorned with iconic faces and bright colors.

Walking or cycling along the Greenway, upon arriving in Retorbido municipality or simply passing along the Bressana-Salice Terme provincial road, it is impossible not to notice this explosion of images and memories: Lupin III, Tiger Mask, Lady Oscar, as well as more recent protagonists like Naruto and My Hero Academia. A true visual journey spanning fifty years of Japanese animation history, beloved worldwide and particularly cherished by many Italian generations.

The mural, already a popular spot for selfies, curious visits, and social media posts, is much more than just urban decoration: it is a work that speaks to emotions and collective memory, capable of enhancing the territory with a universal and immediate language.

Anime WALL-ART is an unmissable stop along the Greenway route. An invitation to slow down, look around, and be surprised by an art born from grassroots passion, building bonds across generations, cultures, and landscapes.
