Sports on the Voghera–Varzi Greenway
Along the Voghera–Varzi Greenway, a wide range of outdoor sports activities awaits.
In the flat section between Voghera and Salice Terme, you’ll find numerous sports facilities—including tennis courts, water sports centers, and a 9-hole golf course in Rivanazzano Terme.
Horse-riding enthusiasts have plenty of options too, with several riding schools offering lessons, excursions, and even competitive facilities, especially in Voghera.
Archery lovers will discover their haven in Valle Ardivestra, specifically at Fornace di Montesegale, home to a training ground used by the Ardivestra Archers Association—a site also frequented by Olympic champion Mauro Nespoli.
Near Cà del Monte, between Cecima and Bagnaria, the three peaks of Monte Vallassa (about 700 meters above sea level) offer excellent rock climbing routes. This ridge between the Staffora and Curone valleys is also a top spot for paragliding, providing sweeping aerial views of the Greenway and the surrounding greenery.
At the head of the Staffora Valley lies Monte Chiappo, equipped with ski lifts for winter sports and offering downhill mountain biking during the summer.
Mountain biking is one of the most exciting ways to explore the upper Oltrepò region. The area features dozens of kilometers of mapped trails and dirt roads, available at www.sentierioltrepopavese.it, allowing riders to reach panoramic peaks, traverse forests filled with native wildlife, and enter protected nature reserves like Monte Alpe and Monte Lesima.
