“The Bike is Wonderful”: October 2 in Varzi with Legambiente
Conservation work on the structures is progressing, and while waiting for the completion of the final section, the Voghera–Varzi Greenway and sustainable mobility will be celebrated with an event titled “Bicycles Are Wonderful”, taking place in Varzi on October 2.
The event, organized by Legambiente Lombardia and the local Voghera chapter—one of the partners involved in the restoration project of the old Voghera–Varzi railway line alongside the Province of Pavia and the Oltrepò Pavese Mountain Community—will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020, in Piazza della Fiera in Varzi. This is the very site where the pedestrian and cycling path is expected to end once the final section of the project is complete.
While restoration works are ongoing between Salice Terme and Varzi—funded by the Province of Pavia with support from the Lombardy Region and the Cariplo Foundation—efforts are underway to restore small bridges and reconnect all parts of the Greenway. This will allow residents and tourists to travel up the Staffora Valley once again.
In Varzi, during the local market, attendees will find informational materials, children’s workshops, and a fully equipped bike repair station.
Throughout the morning, Legambiente will host a gazebo where brochures and other materials about the Voghera–Varzi Greenway will be distributed. The bike repair station will be available for bicycles of all kinds and ages. In the afternoon, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Bicycles Are Wonderful becomes “ABC…cletta”, an educational program featuring workshops and games for children, all centered around bicycles and sustainable mobility.
