Spring: Just Months Away from the Greenway Inauguration

Work continues on the restoration of the Voghera–Varzi Greenway, with the inauguration of the new section—from the spa town of Salice Terme to the entrance of Varzi—scheduled for spring 2021.

Completion of the Works: Greenway Inauguration Approaching

During autumn 2020, the renovation and securing of the various structures along the route were completed. These structures allow for the crossing of streams that flow toward the Staffora River. At the same time, the interventions for consolidation and stabilization of the ground surface were also concluded.

Only a few steps remain until completion. In the coming months, the asphalt paving and installation of urban furnishings will be carried out. During the winter, works are temporarily suspended due to weather conditions.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the project will be completed by April. Thus, in spring 2021, the pedestrian and cycle path from Salice Terme to Varzi will be fully accessible, reaching the foot of the ancient medieval village.

Urban Section of Varzi

There is more good news: in addition to the Greenway’s inauguration, progress is also being made on the final section, the urban stretch that will lead into the center of Varzi. The feasibility study of the route, developed in agreement with the Municipality of Varzi, is about to be submitted. This will be followed by the drafting of the final and executive project. Between March and April, the tender for the execution of the works is expected to be published, with completion anticipated by summer.

In 2021, the entire Greenway will therefore be passable from Voghera to Varzi, mostly following the former railway line.

From Voghera to Varzi: A Single Route

With the hope that 2021 will bring positive developments on all fronts, and in compliance with the prevailing health safety regulations, next spring will also feature promotional and community events organized in collaboration with Legambiente Lombardia, a project partner.
